Gaza
This letter appeared in the Jerusalem Post, 1/1/09
Sir:
While one million Israelis from Sderot to Beersheva are hiding in their houses and ready to run to shelters, now is no time to stop the war against Hamas in Gaza. To have a two-day ceasefire now would play into the hands of Hamas and allow them to regroup against a ground invasion. What can the EU representatives offer anyway, they have no influence over Hamas. If the Government wants to "change the security situation" or merely wants to stop the rockets, then they must send the IDF in on the ground. As they discovered in Lebanon in 2006, aerial attacks cannot stop mobile launchers, and then they left the ground invasion until too late. Let's hope they don't make the same mistake again. Let's not waste the effect of the "shock and awe."
Sincerely
Jack Cohen

Here is another letter that I sent to a group of US and British papers:
Dear Sir:
I would like to thank the British and American Governments and peoples for donating 10 million pounds and m$75 to the poor starving Palestinians in Gaza. This is in addition to the funds donated by the UN, EU and various other countries. There is one question, however, how has the Hamas Government in Gaza accumulated ca. 10,000 rockets as well as other armaments in the past few years. Where do you think the money came from to buy these arms? Why, of course, from donations from Britain, America, the EU, UN and others. So your giving donations to help the Palestinian people subsidizes the terrorist Hamas regime in buying more rockets to fire at Israeli civilians. I thought you should know - your taxes at work! You should also know that even during this current war, Israel continues to provide Gaza with all it's drinking water, most of it's food and medicine (120 trucks went in yesterday) and 75% of its electricity needs. If we wanted to kill civilians you can be sure the toll would be a lot higher than 50 after four days of bombardment.
Sincerely
Jack Cohen

PS. My grandchildren are now living under the threat of Grad missiles in Beersheva.
A Happy New Year 2009 to all of my readers.
